Odd City, from Detroit, MI., is a unique and outspoken rock band consisting of
Mike Szumlinski (vocals, lead guitar), Mike Kap (bass, vocals), Pavel Guysinsky (rhythm guitar) and Brett Redwood (drums).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mike Szumlinski is the newest member of the band, joining Odd City about 2 years ago. Pavel and Brett were high school friends and have been playing music together for 11 years under various names. Mike Kap has been playing with them for 9 years. This combo was a 3-piece instrumental band before Szumlinski joined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Odd City is releasing their first single, “The Upside Down” on April 15, 2022 and their album Fission <\/em>on May 6, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Redwood says, “Pavel\u2019s guitar riffs were our musical inspiration for The Upside Down. I think a small bomb went off in his head on that one.” He continues, “The common theme of the album lyrically seems to be the separation of one\u2019s self from various things in life, it felt like\u00a0Fission<\/em>. The\u00a0themes of each song carried at least a little, if not a lot of that sentiment”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Odd City feels that these are the best songs they have written to date. Written over a period of time, they didn\u2019t have a \u201csinger\u201d per say, they started this and it fleshed itself out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Their writing process includes all of the members of Odd City jumping in together to create each single with their instruments. Every song seems to have its own original story. Redwood usually writes lyrics after the instrumentals are close to being complete.
